Bedok Grassroot Leader Nearly Killed My ColleagueThis is a real life encounter I heard from another colleague. There was a police report somewhere. Those who think that anything here is not accurate should contact the Singapore Police Force to learn more about the case. I will do my corrections or updates here on more information from the Singapore Police Force or any on scene witnesses.2010/06/13My colleague, together with her sister, was burning some ritual papers near her HDB block in Bedok area. A guy approached her and asked her politely to stop, saying that there is a wedding going on nearby. My colleague apologied to this guy, saying that she's not aware of the wedding. Then she asked him for help to move the burning container away, since the papers are already burning, and the container is hot. Then, out of the sudden, there were like 10-30 people surrounding them. The mob started to scold her and shout at her, without giving her a chance to talk. One of them identified himself as a grassroot leader. Then someone grab her hands and slapped her. She called the police. Someone get into a car, she (stupidly) went in front of the car to stop that guy from driving away. While she was walking from the front of the car towards the car door, the driver drove the car and knock her down. The police came. Too bad the police officers did not saw the car knock her down, but saw her on the floor. In front of the police officers, the mob try to argue that 1. they didn't touch her 2. she throw herself to the moving car Luckily, there was someone from a nearby HDB block who saw the incident, and willing to be her witness. My colleague had some minor injury, went to see a doctor and the doctor gave her a few days MC. No permanent injury. Lucky. 2010/06/14Someone from the RC (Resident Committee) called her, and ask her to "settle" this outside of police action. It was a mystery how this RC member got her handphone number. Can the police disclose such information? Take note that this mob tried to kill my colleague and failed, and the Singapore police still give them the victim's contact number?
